Story of New Orleans
03:48
|
|||
Down for the festival some years ago
Woke up at 2 a.m. to go see a show
At Tipitina’s we drank on the lawn
Pulled up onstage and then kicked out at dawn
In New Orleans, New Orleans
A friend of mine spent his New Year’s Eve
In some girl’s arms above Bourbon Street
And later on when the morning came
He knew her story but not her name
New Orleans, New Orleans, oh I’m sure
Nobody’s loved you more
Then the music stopped, the ocean swelled
Our brothers, friends, and children trapped in hell
And every rambling heart the world around
Mourned as our beloved city drowned
And so my dreams were broken in two
The memory of her and the sight of you
I had to be there, I had to go
Was she gone forever? I just had to know
My New Orleans, New Orleans, oh be sure
I said a prayer for her
Walking down the streets and boulevards
Trees torn from their roots, abandoned cars
But somewhere in the air, I heard the sound
Of saxophones and trumpets underground
Looking around at all the work to be done
Enough to overcome most anyone
But the man on the stoop of his gutted out home
Humming a gospel song, was not alone
The family next door they lost everything, too
They picked up the pieces as they picked up the tune
People kept singing, pulling through
Music don’t die, and neither will you
My New Orleans, New Orleans, oh be sure
I’ve never loved you more

On and On
04:51
|
|||
I’ll tell you something you might as well know
I wrote this song about you a long time ago
And if you’re hearing it now, then I’ve said “I do”
So help me God I avow to be faithful to you
On and on and on, wherever we go
On and on and on, forever I know
On and on and on…
You were all I had in mind
All that I’d hoped for all of this time
And I will give you all my life
All that I have, all that is mine
There’s summertime in your smile
And a spark in your eye
As you walked down the aisle
In that dreamer’s disguise
All the love in my heart, it burst in my soul
Swear we’ll ne’er be apart as we grow to be old
On and on and on, wherever we go
On and on and on, forever I know
On and on and on…
You were all I had in mind
All that I’d hoped for all of this time
And I will give you all my life
All that I have, all that is mine

Creation Myth
04:02
|
|||
Every romance has its own creation myth
Whether it’s a fairy tale or drunken kiss
From country roads to city bars
There’s a little of each in ours
It wasn’t so much if, but when I’d find you
Who would have known it then
Would you have believed me if I said
I don’t know how,
but I’ve found everything I ever wanted
Look at you now,
it’s like I prayed to God and He responded
With you
Things were going good, maybe too good to last
Suddenly it all just felt a little fast
I wasn’t ready yet, it’s something I still regret
How could I ever do such a thing to you?
But you stuck it out with me
Did you ever dream that we would be
So happy now, here with everything we ever wanted
Look at you now, it’s like I saw a star
and wished upon it
For you
I wonder how it is that I could be so blessed
All that I can figure is I’ve done my best
I worry it’s not enough, or that I’ll run out of luck
I don’t know what I’d do without you
It’s hard to believe sometimes
The life in the storybook is mine
I don’t know how,
but I’ve found everything I ever wanted
Look at you now,
it’s like I prayed to God and He responded
With you…

Fear of Drowning
02:56
|
|||
So here we are now
Back where we started out
For crying out loud
It’s like we’ve outsmarted ourselves
Walking in circles, looking for miracles
Yet to be found
You start to believe your doubts
When your thoughts turn stormy
And your mind runs aground
Reach out for me, I won’t let you drown
I’m not so naïve
As to think we are Adam and Eve
But I’m one who believes
While you find it harder to concede
That right there beside you
There’s someone to guide you
The best gifts we receive
Sometimes we can’t conceive
When your thoughts turn stormy
And your mind runs aground
Reach out for me, I won’t let you drown
In the depths of your doubt
Hold tight, I’ll pull you out
And in the dark,
I will hold your fragile heart
I love you my dear
I’ll always be near
When your thoughts turn stormy
And your mind runs aground
Reach out for me, I won’t let you drown

Genuine
02:07
|
|||
Just in time I changed my mind
And I fell in love again
That don’t undo what I put you through
But means don’t make the end
It’s too late to say I’m sorry
For everything I’ve done
But darling don’t you worry
I’m as honest as they come
So when I say I’ve changed my ways
You know it’s genuine
Long ago you probably know
That I had a couple of flings
I’ve been passed around this damn town
Like a song people like to sing
It’s too late to change that story
But I’m writing a new one now
Darling don’t you worry
I’m all yours from here on out
Those washed up scenester gossip queens
Don’t know what they’re talking about
It’s too late to say I’m sorry
For everything I’ve said and done
But darling don’t you worry
I love you more than anyone
So when I say to you I do
You know, it’s genuine
Yeah when I say to you, I do
You know, it’s genuine.

Riches of the Poor
04:30
|
|||
Every time I wake up lonely
I remember what you told me
"I won’t let you fall to pieces
Never mind your second guesses."
Feeling as the snow is, falling
Drive away your life is calling
Or follow me I’m going nowhere
But I promise I’ll be there for
You mean more than the world to me
I’ll be sure it’ll always be
Never fear, I am always here
There’s nowhere else I want to be
Than here with you beneath the stars
With my forehead pressed to yours
Laughing in your loving arms
Making dreams we can’t afford
We’ve all the riches of the poor
And I don’t want for nothing more
I can feel our time is coming
Better days have just begun and
Maybe one day we’ll be famous
All the world will want to claim us
Look at how the earth is turning
Over and inside it’s burning
Everyone knows what is missing
Everyone just wants a kiss
So come to bed and turn out the light
Rest your head on my chest tonight
Close your eyes, as the fire dies
There’s nowhere else I’d want to be
Than lying here beside you warm
With my skin pressed up to yours
Laughing in your loving arms
Kicking clothes off to the floor
We’ve all the riches of the poor
And I don’t want for nothing more
